Mary L. Charlton

Mary L. (Bunny) Charlton, 97, of Meadville, passed away Tuesday, April 17, 2018 at Rolling Fields. She was born March 25, 1921 in Meadville, a daughter of William and Ruth Campfield Charlton. Bunny was a graduate of Meadville High School and a 1943 graduate of Indiana State Teachers College with a B.S. in Education. Following graduation, she taught home economics for several years at Neason Hill, West Mead Township, and Cochranton High School. She then served as the director of the dietary department at the former Meadville City Hospital for 8 years. She subsequently worked as a production manager for Hardings Restaurants in Chicago and then for Saga Food Service in the healthcare division as staff assistant to the vice president and general manager from 1964 until her retirement in 1986. Bunny was proud of taking a stand before it became a popular movement for women in the business world to start the movement of pay for performing the same jobs as men. Bunny enjoyed traveling, reading, and working with horses. Survivors include a sister, Phyllis Harris of Indianapolis, IN; five nephews and nieces, Jeffrey Charlton and his wife Nira of Meadville, Linda Henderson and her husband Don of Port Deposit, MD, Janice Snidemiller and her husband Robert of Apex, NC, Mary Jo Sanks and her husband Tony of Butler, and Pamela OLaughlin and her husband Dennis of Meadville, a niece-in-law, Heather Charlton of Meadville; and several great-nieces and great-nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Frederic Charlton; a nephew, David Charlton; and two great-nephews. Calling hours will be Friday, April 20th from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. at the ROBERT W. WAID FUNERAL HOME, 581 CHESTNUT ST., MEADVILLE where the funeral service will follow at 2:30 p.m. with the Rev. Philip Torre officiating. Interment will be in Greendale Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Meadville Public Library, 848 N. Main St., Meadville, PA 16335.
