Mary Elizabeth McNutt, 88, of Grace Nursing Center, Wesbury United Methodist Community, formerly of 974 First Street, Meadville, died at Wesbury, Friday, November 8, 2002.
She was born June 20, 1914 in Grove City, PA a daughter of Dr. Joseph and Edna Rose Neyman Weaver. She attended Grove City College for a brief period and then married William W. McNutt February 24, 1934 and he survives.
Mary Liz was an active Girl Scout leader and administrator and received the Juliette Low Award for Outstanding Contributions. She was also a former officer in the Babe Ruth Baseball League, a member of Stone United Methodist Church, the Meadville YWCA Gallivanters Club and the Neason Hill Card Club. Her involvement in the Girl Scout program and participation in the Neason Hill Card Club each spanned over 50 years.
Many of Mary Liz’s fondest memories were the time spent with her friends at the Municipal Campground in Belle Glade, FL and the Camp Wilhelm Campground in Sheakleyville, PA.
Survivors, in addition to her husband of 68 years, include two sons, Dr. James C. McNutt of Montreal, Quebec, Canada and Captain Jon J. McNutt, US Coast Guard (Ret) of Meadville; a daughter, Karen L. Schroyer of Limerick, PA; eight grandchildren, Karen Englund, Kathy McDaniel, Beth Clarke, Nathan McNutt, Stephen McNutt, Lynn McNutt, Steven Schroyer, and Kara Schroyer, nine great-grandchildren and a brother, James Weaver of Venice, FL. She was preceded in death by a son, Joel W. McNutt.
Calling hour will be Monday from 2-3 p.m. at the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, Inc., 581 Chestnut St., Meadville.
The funeral service will follow at 3 p.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. William L. Brown, Visitation Pastor of Stone United Methodist Church, officiating.
Burial will be in Greendale Cemetery.
The family suggests memorials be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
