Mary Lou Gaughan

May 1, 1944 — May 29, 2021

Mary Lou Gaughan, of Meadville, passed away on May 29, 2021. Born May 1,1944, she was the beloved wife of Robert Gaughan whom she married 54 years ago; devoted mother of Laura Hale (James) and Kelly Mahoney (Michael) who never stopped learning from her simple devotion and faith in them. Mary Lou was the proud Nana of five grandchildren, Michael Jr., Robert and Patrick Mahoney, and Chap and Mabe Hale, and loving sister to Carole Anne Bachman and Bill Lamb. Mary Lou was the oldest daughter of Bill and Louise Lamb of Glenshaw, PA. Mary Lou graduated from Indiana University of Pennsylvania, and was a teacher in the Crawford Central School District for 20 years, most of that time she taught kindergarten at West End Elementary school. Mary Lou enjoyed tennis, golf, bridge, exercising and lunch in the company of her wide and varied circle of friends. She was an active member of the Meadville Garden Club for 40 years and served as a Co Chair of the Trees of Christmas. Mary Lou loved the Catholic Church, Thanksgiving, Christmas family traditions and the Pittsburgh Steelers. She was completely devoted to her girls and never missed a swim meet or tennis match and could always be counted on to volunteer as homeroom mom, field trip chaperone or run a carpool. If possible, she loved her role as Nana even more. The family will receive friends Wednesday, June 2nd from 2-3 p.m. in the Chapel of St. Brigid Church 383 Arch Street, Meadville. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 3 pm. with Fr. Andrew Boyd, Celebrant. Interment will be in St. Agatha Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Meadville Garden Club, c/o Kathy Suich, 2367 Reash Church Rd, Cochranton, PA 16314. The Gaughan family would like to thank Nikki Jannot Estes, a treasured former student teacher, who looked over her in Florida this winter, Dr. Winnie Pao of the Cleveland Clinic who showed a great interest in her health and well being, and the countless friends who provided love and support over the years.
