Mary J. Loucks Nicolls Balizet, 87, died on Tuesday, October 28, 2008 at Rolling Fields Nursing Home, Conneautville.
Mary was born in Beaver Center on June 27, 1921 a daughter of the late Lynn and Kate Lester Loucks. She married Gerald (Gerry) Nicolls on August 30, 1941 and subsequently married William Balizet, Sr. on November 14, 1981.
Mary was a graduate of Beaver Center School in 1938 and Conneautville High School in 1939. She worked at American Viscose, Kerrtown School cafeteria, Giles Dairy, lived and managed with her husband Gerald, Nicolls Dairy at Bethesda Home Farm from 1961 – 1970, and was Woodcock Twp. tax collector from 1973 until retirement in June 1983.
A 50 year member of the First Presbyterian Church of Meadville, Mary was past Matron of Golden Crown Chapter #44 of Order of Eastern Star, a Girl Scout leader, a Sunday school teacher, a member of Woodcock and Harmony Grange and served as President of the Republican Women.
Mary and husband Bill moved to Port Orange, FL in 1984 and then to Daytona Beach, FL in 1990. She loved sewing, hand work, flowers, her children, grandchildren and families.
She is survived by one son, Bruce Nicolls of Cochranton; son-in-law, Paul Huber and his wife Francie of Meadville, step-son, William Balizet, Jr. and his wife Kay of Cochranton; step-daughter, Barbara Johnson and her husband Bruce of Jacksonville, FL; three granddaughters, Tami Huber Mullen and her husband Brian of Meadville, Brooke Huber Schmidt and her husband Chuck of Fort Mills, SC and Katie Nicolls Stearns and her husband Mark of Meadville; a grandson, Nathan Nicolls of Meadville; four step-grandchildren; three great granddaughters, Danielle Mullen, Victoria Mullen and Riley Stearns; three great grandsons, Mitch Mullen, Sam Schmidt and Tyler Schmidt and six step great grandchildren.
Mary was preceded in death by her daughter, Linda Nicolls Huber on December 31, 1979, first husband, Gerald (Gerry) Nicolls March 4, 1980, her second husband, William Balizet, Sr. on September 8, 2004 and siblings Herman Loucks of Linesville, Lester Loucks of Beaver Center and Vivian Loucks Morris of Conneautville.
Calling hours will be Sunday from 1-3 p.m. at the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, Inc., 581 Chestnut Street, Meadville. The funeral service will follow at 3 p.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Brian K. Jensen, Pastor of First Presbyterian Church, officiating.
Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to the Linda Nicolls Huber Fund to promote knowledge of living with diabetes in care of the Crawford Heritage Foundation, P.O. Box 908, Meadville, PA 16335.
