Marybelle H. (Horak) Bird

March 12, 1917 — April 30, 2016

Marybelle Horak Bird, 99, formerly of Guys Mills, and a 3 1/2 year resident of Wesbury Hillside Home, went to meet her Father God and Savior Jesus Christ and join her loving husband and many family members and friends, died surrounded by family at the Hillside Home on Saturday, April 30, 2016.

She was born at home in McKees Rocks, PA, March 12, 1917 a daughter of Rudolph and Adela Knycl Horak. She married David F. (Gerald) Bird, Jr. on December 30, 1939. He preceded her in death December 21, 1980, just a few days before their 41st anniversary.

She was a 1934 graduate of Meadville High School. For 3 years she owned and operated Bird’s Grocery Store with her husband, then was a clerk with the U.S. Postal Service in the Guys Mills Post Office for 25 years.

She was a member of the United Evangelical Free Church of Guys Mills for 75 years taking an active part as Sunday School teacher, pianist, board member and member of Ladies Aid.  She enjoyed quilting, crocheting, gardening, baking traditional Czech foods, and traveling all around the U.S.  Her best love, however, was her family.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Carol and her husband Frank Schiller; a son, David Lyle Bird; a brother, Milton and his wife Gladys Horak; two sisters Vera and her husband Joseph Martin and Florence and her husband Walter Miller; 3 nephews and a niece.

She is survived by a daughter Sharon Hayes of Guys Mills, four grandchildren, James (Jay) Bradley and his wife Diana and their children, Emilee, David, Taylor and Nathan (Niki) and granddaughter, Autumn; Kathryn and her husband Douglas Ross and their daughter Maralee (Andrew) Lellio: Patrick Bradley and his wife Melodie and their children Zachary, Jacob, and Tawnae and granddaughter Aria Belle: and Douglas Bradley and his wife Cynthia and her son Damion (Jonnie) and granddaughters Janelle and Amelia; two nieces, Christy Holmes and Linda Lenhart; a nephew, William Brennen and a few surviving friends, especially Jayne Beuchat.

The family wants to thank both Wesbury Hillside Home and Asera Care Hospice for their loving and devoted care of Marybelle.  We remain forever grateful to each individual who treated her as his/her own family.

Calling hours will be Saturday from 1-3 p.m. at the United Evangelical Free Church at Guys Mills, 11534 State Hwy. 198, Guys Mills. The funeral service will follow at 3 p.m. at the church with Pastor Mark Rusnak, Chaplain of Asera Care Hospice and Pastor Dave Coddington, officiating.

Interment will be in Union Cemetery, Guys Mills.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to the United Evangelic Free Church, P. O. Box 26, Guys Mills, PA 16327 or Wesbury Hillside Home, 535 Williamson Road, Meadville, PA 16335.
