Maurice D. Shaffer, 72, of Meadville, died at City Hospital Monday, June 4, 1973, after an illness of two weeks.
He was born at Portersville on January 16, 1901, a son of Dr. James A. and Valeria Reid Shaffer. He first married Alma Dooley. After her death, he married Mae Bradford. After her death he married Genevieve Hoyt. Mr. Shaffer was employed as a tool and die maker at Talon Division of Textron, Inc., for many years. He was an Army veteran of World War I and attended Park Congregational Church.
Survivors include his widow; two daughters, Mrs. Richard (Lucille) Millett of Portland, OR and Mrs. William (Eleanor) Buchanan of Leesburg, VA; eight sons, Kenneth E. of Woodcock, Maurice Jr. of Cocoa Beach, FL, James D. of Muskego, WI, the Rev. John M. Shaffer of Unionville, VA, Frank R. of Knox, Robert A. of Charleston Heights, SC, Charles D. of Meadville and George E. of Albion; two sisters, Mrs. Clay (Mary) Hull of New Enterprise and Mrs. Fay Headington of Westerville, OH; several stepchildren; thirty-nine grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, William, who died in 1970.
Services were held at Waid Funeral Home.
Interment was in Evergreen Cemetery, Harmonsburg.
