Maurice E. Brawley

March 23, 1911 — August 12, 2008

Maurice E. Brawley, 97, formerly of Hunter Road, Meadville and a resident of the Crawford County Care Center died there Tuesday, August 12, 2008.

He was born in E. Mead Twp., Crawford Co., March 23, 1911 a son of Lee and Mabel Smith Brawley.  He married Alice E. Wilson March 28, 1935 and she preceded him in death February 24, 2004.

He was a self-employed dairy farmer and also drove a school bus for over 20 years.  After he retired from farming he worked for six years at Wilson Lumber and then at PennDot for six years.

He was a 1930 graduate of the former Randolph High School, a member of Pine Grove United Methodist Church and the Kiser Hill Grange for over 50 years.  He also provided lawn care and maintenance at Kiser Hill Cemetery for over 40 years.

Survivors, include: two children, Janet Kerr and her husband Edward of Meadville and Harold Brawley and his wife Vivian of Meadville; a daughter-in-law, Alice I. Brawley of Meadville, ten grandchildren, William Brawley, Sharon Dunn, Brenda Etzel, Christine Mecca, Kurt Stark, Kent Stark, Rick Brawley, Tonya Brawley, Leslie Humes and Jeff Brawley; one step-grandson, David Kerr; seventeen great grandchildren and three step-great grandchildren.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a son, W. Lee Brawley, three brothers, Wesley, Oscar and Lloyd Brawley and three sisters, Maude Bowes, Twila Gandelot and an infant sister.

Calling hours will be Saturday from 1 – 3 p.m. at the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, Inc., 581 Chestnut Street, Meadville.  The funeral service will follow at 3 p.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Alice McClymonds, Pastor of Pine Grove United Methodist Church, officiating.

Burial will be in Kiser Hill Cemetery.

The family suggests memorials be made to the Pine Grove United Methodist Church, 9488 S. Wayland Road, Meadville, PA 16335.
