Melvin E. Taylor

July 2, 1913 — March 19, 1979

Melvin E. Taylor, 65, of Meadville, died of natural causes, Monday, March 19, 1979, at City Hospital after a period of failing health.

He was born at Industry, Allegheny County, July 2, 1913, a son of Charles and Rose Ann Thompson Taylor.  He married Roberta Beach, July 31, 1938, and retired in 1976 after 42 years as assistant spinning department head at FMC Corp.

Taylor attended Stone United Methodist Church and was a member of its administrative board and finance committee.  He was a member of the FMC Corp. management club, and belonged to the board of Meadville Chapter of American Red Cross.

He was a member of Masonic Lodge 408, Solomon Royal Arch Chapter, Timothy Alden Council, and Northwestern Commandry, Knights Templar.  Taylor was a veteran of the US Navy during World War II and served in the Mediterranean area.  He also had been an active bowler.

In addition to his wife, his survived by a daughter, Mrs. Lawrence (Linda) Sargent of Shaker Heights, OH; two sisters, Mrs. Daniel (Lillian) Sample of Fredonia, NY and Mrs. Catherine Abbott of Pittsburgh; one brother, Charles Taylor of Santa Anna, CA and one granddaughter.

He was preceded in death by a brother.

Services were held at Waid Funeral Home.

Interment was in Roselawn Memorial Gardens.
