Melvin H. (Chip) Kirkwood, Sr.

Melvin H. (Chip) Kirkwood, Sr., 67, of Linesville died Wednesday, April 16, 2019 at UPMC Hamot, Erie.

He was born July 30, 1951 in New Castle the son of Fred H. and Florence Harbarge Kirkwood.  He married Marylou Hannaford August 12, 2006 and she survives.

He was a 1971 graduate of Shenango High School and worked as a mechanic at various area garages, then in maintenance and repair first at Cooks Forest State Park and then at Pymatuning State Park retiring in 2010.

Chip was an avid drag racer.  In his younger years, he raced throughout the area and several states setting several track records.  He also was an avid sportsman and hunter and would compete at area sportsman’s clubs.  With his wife, Marylou, he would show mini horses and several area fairs and parades.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, Marylou, of 12 years, include: a son, Melvin H. Kirkwood, Jr. (Mary) of Grove City; a daughter, Audra Kirkwood of Jefferson, OH; a sister, Joyce Kirkwood of Hookstown, PA; four grandchildren, Landon Ray Hice, Jr., Mary Kate (Kenneth Bable), Trenton and Stephanie and three great grandchildren, Lyem, Kameron and Tate.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Calling hours will be Friday, April 19th from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. and Saturday, April 20th from 10-11 a.m. at the Waid-Coleman Funeral Home, Inc., 12422 Conneaut Lake Road, Conneaut Lake.

The funeral service will be Saturday, April 20th at 11 a.m. at the funeral home.

Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Harmonsburg.
