Melvin T. Knapp, 89, of Meadville, died suddenly Monday, January 12, 1998 at Meadville Medical Center.
He was born in Hayfield Township, Crawford County, August 9, 1908, a son of the late Thomas and Ida Rundell Knapp. He married Katherine Gailey, September 11, 1937. She survives.
He had been associated with Gelvin Jackson and Starr since 1935 and has been a life insurance agent for 61 years. He graduated from New York University and took advanced insurance courses at Penn State University. He was a member, former Deacon and Elder of the First Presbyterian Church, member and past president of the Crawford County Life Underwriters Assn., member of the National Life Underwriters Assn., member of Meadville Kiwanis Club, Masonic Lodge 408, Scottish Rite Bodies of Erie, Zem Zem Shrine Temple of Erie and Crawford County Shrine Club.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a son, Gayle T. Knapp (Ruth) of Meadville; a daughter, Mrs. James (Marilyn) Cullom of Pluckemin, NJ and two grandchildren, Derek Knapp of Silver Springs, MD and Laura Knapp of Meadville.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Forest, Earl and Paul Knapp.
Services were held at Waid Funeral Home.
Interment was in Greendale Cemetery.
