Merle C. Swogger

Merle C. Swogger, 82, of Carlton, died Wednesday, October 4, 1989, at Wengerd Home Care, Hadley, following a brief illness.

He was born in French Creek Township, Mercer County, March 31, 1907, a son of Lewis E. and Nellie Foulk Swogger.  He married Arlene Ridgeway.  She survives.

He retired in 1972 as a chain machine operator at Talon after 38 years.  He also owned and operated Swogger's Garage in Milledgeville.  He was a member of Milledgeville United Presbyterian Church.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a daughter, Mrs. Richard (Janice) Stahlsmith of Ashville, NY; two sons, Ronald K. Swogger of Mercer and Bruce A. Swogger of Milledgeville and six grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Mabel McEntee; four half sisters, Grace Clark Popeney, Hazel Bailey, Grace Fickenworth and Helen Wolbold and two half sisters, Earl Swogger and Claude Hunt.

Services were held at Waid Funeral Home.

Interment was in Cochranton Cemetery.
