Merle A. Casler, 48, of Guys Mills, died suddenly Monday evening at his home after suffering a heart attack.
An employee of Miller's Shoe Store in Meadville, Casler died about two hours after returning home from work last night.
The victim was rushed to City Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival. He had been under s doctor's care.
Son of Flossie Stafford Casler and the late Orris Casler, he spent his early life at Corry, graduating from Corry High School in 1928. His widow, the former Leona Reed, is presently a first grade teacher at the Randolph-East Mead Elementary School at Guys Mills.
Casler was employed in various Meadville show stores and for a short period with the Erie Railroad between 1935 to 1945. In 1945, he moved to Guys Mills where he operated a grocery store for five years. Since 1950, he had been employed by the Miller Shoe Store except for one short period.
He was a deacon of the Guys Mills Congregational Church and served as treasurer of the church. He also belonged to the Randolph Township Volunteer Fire Department and was affiliated with Crawford Lodge 234, Free and Accepted Masons, in Meadville.
Besides his widow, Casler is survived by a daughter, Barbara Ann, a senior at Randolph-East Mead High School; his mother, and a brother, Clair, both of Corry.
Services were held at Waid Funeral Home.
Interment was in Union Cemetery, Guys Mills.
