Merle E. (Butch) Jones

Merle E. (Butch) Jones, 75, of Meadville, passed away Friday, December 9, 2022 at Meadville Medical Center.

He was born November 12, 1947 in Meadville, a son of Harold and Agnes Bossard Jones.  He married Deborah Straw September 12, 1970.

Butch was a graduate of Saegertown High School and was a Veteran of the Vietnam War, serving in the U.S. Army from 1967-1969.  He worked at Avtex Fibers, Sunbeam, and retired from Meadville Forging Company.

Butch was a member of Meadville Elks Lodge 219, West Mead 2 VFD, and Saegertown American Legion Post 205.  He was an avid hunter and golfer and enjoyed bowling including achieving a 300 game.  He loved attending his children and grandchildren’s sporting events.

Survivors, in addition to his loving wife Debbie, include a daughter, Heather Jones (James Bonant) of Meadville; a son, Chad Jones (Amanda) of Meadville; four grandchildren, Shelby, Julian, Jocelyn, and Ramsay Jones; a great-grandson, Bentley Meyrick; a brother, Robert Jones (Marilyn); a sister, Shirley Jones; and a sister-in-law, Barbara Jones, all of Saegertown; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Richard Jones.

Calling hours will be Tuesday, December 13th from 4-6 p.m. at the ROBERT W. WAID FUNERAL HOME, 581 CHESTNUT ST., MEADVILLE with an Elks service at 5:45 p.m.  The funeral service will follow at 6:00 p.m. with the Rev. Alice McClymonds officiating.
