Merrill U. Kougher

Merrill U. Kougher, 81, of Meadville, died at City Hospital, Wednesday, May 30, 1984, after a period of failing health.

He was born at Venango Township, Mercer County, June 29, 1902, a son of Grant and Gula Gardener Kougher.  He was married August 16, 1944, to Luella McFadden, who died May 10, 1980.

He retired in 1967 from Avtex Fibers, Inc., where he had worked at the sixth building.  He served from 1921 to 1923 in the US Army Quartermaster Corps on Staten Island, NY.

He is survived by a son, Lewis M. "Sonny" Kougher of Meadville; four daughters, Mrs. Donley (Gula) Smith of Linesville, Mrs. William (Levina) Hunt of Meadville, Mrs. Charles (Dessie) Oster of Meadville and Mrs. David Keith (Anna Mae) Eddy of Meadville; a sister, Mrs. Esther Reihl of North East; a brother, Charles Kougher of North East; fourteen grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.

Services were held at Waid Funeral Home.

Interment was in Roselawn Memorial Gardens.
