Merrill W. Troutman, 38, of Meadville, principle at Second District and Kerrtown schools, died suddenly yesterday at his office in Second District School.
A physician called to the school attributed death to a heart attack. Troutman reportedly had complained of feeling ill before leaving his home and had made an appointment to see a doctor in the afternoon.
Troutman came to Meadville in August of 1956, from Sunbury where he had been school principal. He was principal of Neason Hill and Kerrtown schools for two years until the change this year.
A native of Shamokin, he was born April 28, 1920, a twin son of Merrill M. and Ida Miller Troutman. He married the former Irene Parker on April 14, 1947.
Troutman was a graduate of Shamokin High School in 1939. He served in the Armed Forces during World War II from 1939 to 1946, spending four and a half years in the European Theater. He was a graduate of Bloomsburg State Teachers College, received his master's degree from Bucknell University and was working on his doctor's degree at Pennsylvania State University.
He was a member of Northumberland Methodist Church in Shamokin, Meadville Kiwanis Club and the American Legion here, Pennsylvania State Educatoin Assn. and National Education Assn. and Washington Masonic Lodge in Bloomsburg.
Surviving, in addition to his widow, is his twin brother, William M. Troutman, of Williamsport; a half brother, George L. Turner, Jr. of York and an aunt and an uncle, Mrs. John L. Troop and Goerge R. Miller, both of Shamokin. Several other aunts and uncles also survive.
Services were held at Waid Funeral Home.
Interment was in Northumberland Memorial Park.
