Michael C. Kosturick

July 17, 1917 — February 18, 2002

Michael C. Kosturick, 84, of Inglewood, CA, died Monday, February 18, 2002, after a lengthy illness.

Born in Pittsburgh, July 17, 1917, he was a son of Mary and Michael Kosturcik.  He married Marjorie Flora Woodworth February 14, 1947 in Inglewood.  She preceded him in death in August of 2000.

He was a graduate of Conneaut Lake High School.  A veteran of World War II, he was in the 846th Signal Service Photographic Battaloin in New York.  It was there he was cast as the first G.I. Joe in many documentaries.

He received his bachelor of arts and master of science degrees from the University of Southern California at Los Angeles.  He taught English, speech and drama class in the Los Angeles Count School District, college and university for 36 years.

An active member of the Screen Actors Guild, he spent his entire life writing, directing and acting in stage plays and motion pictures.  He received the freedom foundation award for writing and directing.

Survivors include several nieces and nephews, including Andrew Kosturick and Joan Kozlowsky of Conneaut Lake, Richard Winans and Andrea Hcikernell of California, Mary Ruther of Washington, Fran Mazurika nd Mike Meloni of Pittsburgh and Clarence Godsave of Hermitage.

He was preceded in death by three sisters, Anne Winans, Mary Meloni and Helen Godsave and three brothers, Stephen, Charles and Andrew.

Services were held with Waid-Coleman Funeral Home.

Interment was in Our Lady Queen of the Americas Cemetery.
