Michael G. Chechak

May 11, 1918 — August 9, 2001

Michael G. Checkak, 83, of Conneaut Lake, died Thursday, August 9, 2001 at Meadville Medical Center. Born in Ford City, May 11, 1918, he was a son of Andrew and Anna Rosol Checkak. He married Olga Gernot October 16, 1948 at St. Mary's Ukrainian Catholic Church. He served in the US Army during World War II as a medic with the Gen. George S. Patton at the Battle of the Bulge, where he received a Battle Star for his efforts. He started working with the Ford City works of PPG and retired from PPG Works No. 8 of Meadville in 1980 after 31 years. He was a member of Our Lady Queen of the Americas Church and the Greek Catholic Union. He was a former member of the Holy Name Society at Holy Trinity Church, Ford City and the Ford City Eagles Aerie. He enjoyed fishing and going to his Warren County camp with family and friends. Survivors, in addition to his wife of 52 years, include two sons, Michael J. Chechak (Patricia) and Andrew J. Checkak (Catherine), all of Meadville; a daughter, Dolores A. Atha (Roy) of Guys Mills; three step-grandchildren, Tracey Smith, Anthony Atha and Richard Atha and four step-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three sisters, Ann Lehmann, Mary Bellotti and Bernadine Chechak and three brothers, Andrew, John and Joseph Chechak. Services were held at Waid Funeral Home. Interment was in Our Lady Queen of the Americas Church. Services Past Services
