Mildred A. Donaldson

June 5, 1900 — February 20, 1990

Mildred A. Donaldson, of Meadville, died Wednesday, February 20, 1990, at Meadville Medical Center, following a period of failing health.

She was born in Buffalo, NY, a daughter of Alfred A. and Eva Haggstrom Donaldson.

She retired from Meadville High School having taught English, speech and drama for 17 years.  Previously, she had taught in the Cochranton High School and for 20 years at Tidioute Public Schools and Edinboro State Teachers College and took post-graduate work at Allegheny College and Penn State University.  She was a member of the National Education Assn., the PA State Education Assn., the Crawford County Education Assn. and the Retired Teachers Assn.  She was a member of the Delta Kappa Gamma sorority for teachers and the Meadville Business and Professional Women's Club.  She had been a member of the Troubadetts, a former Meadville women's choral group.  She was a member of the Meadville Alliance Church of the Christian and Missionary Alliance, where she was a former choir member and Sunday school teacher and a member of the women's missionary prayer fellowship.  While living in Tidioute, she was a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church and was active in the church youth and Sunday school work, was a choir member and the director of the Sunday school music.  She was a charter member and past president of the Fortnightly Club and a member of the Mendelssohn Club.

Survivors include Irene Higby, with whom she had lived since 1947, and a sister, Julia Grace Oiler of Deerfield Beach, FL.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Ralph Donaldson and two sisters, Gladys Bulard and Florence Owens.

Services were held at Waid Funeral Home.

Interment was in Tidioute Cemetery.
