Mildred Conrad Bode

April 12, 1925 — November 6, 2008

Mildred Conrad Bode, 83, formerly of Pettis Road, Meadville and a resident of the Crawford County Care Center, passed away there, Thursday, November 6, 2008.

Born in Richmond Twp. April 12, 1925, she was the daughter of Arthur James and Mittie Root Willis.  She graduated from New Richmond High School in 1942.  She married Clarence Edward Conrad October 16, 1943.  They owned and operated Conrad’s Grocery Store in Blooming Valley for 10 years.  He preceded her in death August 13, 1971.  She subsequently married William A. Bode and he preceded her in death April 27, 1990.

She retired in 1991 after 15 years as a nurse’s aid at Hillside Home.  She was a member of St. Paul’s United Church of Christ.  She enjoyed family gatherings, time spent with her grandchildren and great grandchildren, reading, crocheting, puzzles, cooking and baking.

Survivors, include: a son, Gary Conrad and his wife Pennie of Meadville; two daughters, Debbie Conrad of Meadville and Cathy Tweed and her husband Jon of Erie; three grandchildren, Chad Conrad, Corey Conrad and Emily Tweed; five great grandchildren, Caitlyn, Chad Jr. (C.J.), Calsey, Cameron and Carleigh and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husbands, she was preceded in death by five sisters, Janette Willis, Marian Jackman, Margaret Brown, Grace Fosburgh and LuAnne Hovis and two brothers, Paul Willis and Merle Willis.

Calling hours will be Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, Inc., 581 Chestnut Street, Meadville.

The funeral service will be Monday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Martin Hardy, Pastor of St. Paul’s United Church of Christ, officiating.

Burial will be in Kiser Hill Cemetery.

The family suggests memorials be made to the John Kanzius Cancer Research Fund, Palace Business Center, 915 State Street, Erie, PA 16501.
