Mildred Mae Guthrie

February 17, 1920 — September 16, 2008

Mildred Mae Guthrie, 88, a resident of Wesbury United Methodist Community entered Heaven’s Gate Tuesday, September 16, 2008.

She was born in Meadville February 17, 1920 a daughter of Eli and Maria Cvijeticaniu Mihailov.  She married Ben Guthrie in 1954 and she preceded her in death in 1977.

She was a 1938 graduate of Randolph High School and a graduate of Practical Bible Training School in Binghamton, NY (now known as Davis College).  She was a veteran of World War II serving with the Women’s Army Corps at Fort Sam Houston, Texas for 28 months.

She was employed in the accounting department of the Association of the US Army in Arlington, VA for 30 years.  She also worked at one time for the former American Viscose Corp., Billy Graham extension office in Washington, DC, and in the Children’s Department of the Central Union Mission in Washington, DC.  She taught Sunday School for 30 years and was a camp counselor at various camps.

She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and enjoyed reading, music and gardening.

Survivors, include: two sisters, Ruby Mihailov of Meadville and Desta Stevens and her husband Rev. Maynard of Lindley, NY; three brothers, John Mihailov and his wife Grace of Mesa, AZ, George Mihailov of Meadville and Eli Mihailov and his wife Patricia of Guys Mills and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, she preceded in death by five sisters, Donna Fink, Mary Edna Mihailov, Anna Mihailov, Emily Mihailov and Sadie June Mihailov; two infant sisters, Eva and Olga Mihailov; two brothers, Harry Mihailov and Milan Mihailov and an infant brother, Daniel Mihailov.

There is no calling hours.

The funeral and committal service will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, Inc., 581 Chestnut Street, Meadville with the Rev. Doug Messerall, Pastor of Calvary Baptist Church, officiating.  Military honors will be provided by Huidekoper VFW Post #2006.

Burial will be in Radle Cemetery.
