Mrs. Miriam Shryrock Culbertson, widow of Atty. Leland J. Culbertson, died Thursday, May 18, 1961, at her home in Meadville, after a long illness.
Long associated with many of the city's welfare and literary organizations, Mrs. Culbertson was graduated from Allegheny College in 1914 and for many years taught in the three-room Porter Street School, now the East End School.
For many years, she was a director of the Meadville Children's Aid Society and Home for the Aged and was serving on the boards of directors of Meadville Associated Charities and Meadville Senior Citizens Assn.
Mrs. Culbertson was born in Meadville, a daughter of John J. and Louise Magaw Shryrock. Her husband died February 6, 1956.
She was a member of the Unitarian Church and its Women's Alliance. At Allegheny she was affiliated with Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority. She assisted in the city's recreation program summers during her teaching days.
Mrs. Culbertson was a member of Meadville Garden Club, the Antique Study Club, Women's Literary Club, Philo-Mathesian Club and Crawford County Historical Society.
She is survived by a son, John S. Culbertson of Meadville; two granddaughters, Annette Miriam and Constance Margaret; a sister, Mrs. Robert (Adelaide) Crawford of Grimsby, Ont., Canada; two brothers, E. Osborne and Merwin G. Shryrock of Meadville; and several nieces and nephews.
Services were held at Waid Funeral Home.
Interment was in Greendale Cemetery.
