Morton Daniel Allen, 81, of 10240 Circle West, Meadville died Sunday, October 13, 2002 at Rolling Fields Nursing Home.
He was born June 8, 1921 in Holcomb, NY a son of Morton C. and Edna Kesby Allen. He married Eve Waslo September 2, 1946 and she preceded him in death August 17, 1979. He subsequently married Catherine Neff Castile May 22, 1982 and she survives.
He retired in 1965 as a Master Sergeant with the US Marine Corps after 24 years of service. He was a veteran of World War II, Korea and Vietnam. He then worked for 18 years for the PA Department of Agriculture retiring in 1983 as North West Region Supervisor of the Bureau of Foods and Chemistry. In his retirement, he worked for 3 years as a consultant for Microbach Laboratories of Erie.
He was a 1939 graduate of Holcomb, NY High School. He was a member of Fifth Street Presbyterian Church in Conneaut Lake. He was also a member of Aurel Bachiak Det., Marine Corps League, the Mead Memorial American Legion Post #282, Crawford Masonic Lodge #234 and Vernon Central Hose Co. He was a retired member of the Central Atlantic States Assn. of Food and Drug Officials. And he was a life member of the Coachmen Caravan Chapter #66 of New York.
He loved camping, his family and his country.
Survivors, in addition to his wife Catherine, include: son, Daniel P. Allen and his wife Julie of Fredericksburg, VA; a daughter, Lois Allen and her companion Joseph Galbo III of Meadville; a step-son, Dennis A. Castile and his wife Bonnie of Lake City; a step-daughter, Judy Forsythe and her husband T. Michael of Harmony; a brother Russell W. Allen and his wife Jessie of Sinking Spring; three grandchildren, Allen Kreckel, Benjamin Allen and Kylie Allen; seven step-grandchildren, Amy Gilson, Casey Castile, Kyle Castile, Lexie Castile, Keith Ball, Samantha Ball and Tad Forsythe; a great granddaughter, Alexa Gilson and several cousins. He was preceded in death by two daughters, Ruth Ann Allen and Mary Therse Allen
Calling hours will be Monday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, Inc., 581 Chestnut Street, Meadville, where a Masonic Service will be held Monday at 7:30 p.m.
The funeral service with military honors will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the Fifth Street Presbyterian Church, Fifth Street, Conneaut Lake, with the Rev. Penney Fujii, Pastor, officiating.
Burial will be in Kiser Hill Cemetery.
The family suggests memorials be made to Fifth Street Presbyterian Church, 145 S. 5th Street, Conneaut Lake, PA 16316.
