Msgt. Charles P. Barnes

MSgt. Charles “Chuck” Patrick Barnes (USAF, Ret.), 67, of Montgomery, AL passed away on Sunday, February 17, 2013.  He was born May 1, 1945 a son of Charles A. and Mary Agnes McCabe Barnes.  He married Mary Loralyn “Lynn” Wasson, May 6, 1967 at the First Baptist Church, Meadville, and she survives.

Chuck entered military service with the Air Force in 1962 and retired in 1983.  His foreign service included a tour in Spangdahlem, Germany and two tours in Incirlik, Turkey.  He was the recipient of the Meritorious Service Medal, the Air Force Commendation Medal with 2 oak leaf clusters, the Air Force Outstanding Unit Award, the Air Force Good Conduct Medal with 5 oak leaf clusters, the National Defense Service Medal, the Air Force Longevity Award with 4 oak leaf clusters, and the Air Force Professional Military Education Ribbon.  Chuck was also twice selected the Air Force Data Systems Design Center Noncommissioned Officer of the Quarter.  He was a computer whiz in the Air Force and carried that knowledge with him into his civilian career with Sperry and Unisys.  He was affectionately known as “PC” by his friends and was always willing to share his computer knowledge.

Chuck was a member of The American Legion Post 113, Millbrook, AL and the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 4572, Wetumpka, AL.  He was also a fan of boating.  Chuck loved cruising Lake Martin in Alabama on his pontoon boat with his friends and family.

Survivors, in addition to his wife Lynn of 45 years, include: his son, MSgt Jeffery M. Barnes, USAFR of Meadville; his daughter, Jennifer L. Barnes of Montgomery, AL; his sister Mary T. Wren, his brother John A. Barnes; his aunt, Patricia Barnes; his mother-in-law, Maryevelyn L. Wasson; his sisters-in-law, Dianne L. Lawson of Meadville and Marla J. Wasson (Ed Murak) of Lewisberry, PA; one niece, two nephews, cousins and a multitude of friends.

He was preceded in death his father, Charles A. Barnes; his mother, Mary Agnes McCabe Barnes Collins; his brother, Michael A. Barnes; his father-in-law, Lorance S. Wasson; his brother-in-law, Dean F. Lawson; his nephew, Nathan L. Robison, and several beloved aunts and uncles.

Calling hours will be Tuesday from 5-8 p.m. at the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, Inc., 581 Chestnut Street, Meadville.  The funeral service will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home.

Interment with military honors will be in Greendale Cemetery.

The family suggests memorials be made to the American Cancer Society, 505 Poplar Street, Suite 310, Meadville, PA 16335.
