Myles A. Schweitzer, 80, of 528 Hartz Ave., Meadville died Saturday, October 2, 2004 at Meadville Medical Center following a lengthy illness.
He was born November 27, 1923 in Guys Mills, a son of the late Otto and Margaret Blackmer Schweitzer. He married Thora Pierce October 19, 1946.
He was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II. He worked for Conrail, retiring in 1984as a conductor following 38 years of service. He was a life member of both the Meadville Elks Lodge #219 and the Harm Jan Huidekoper Veteran of Foreign Wars Post #2006, Meadville. He enjoyed hunting, woodworking, puzzles, making crafts, crosswords, playing cards and especially being with his family.
He attended Blooming Valley United Methodist Church.
Survivors, in addition to his wife of 57 years, include a son, Richard Schweitzer and his wife Chris of Titusville, FL; 3 daughters, Sara (Sally) Ramaley of Meadville; Jane Schwab and her husband Darrell of Meadville; and Marjorie Vaughn and her husband Dwight of Clermont, FL; 7 grandchildren, Andy Schwab, Tina Calton, Lori Stevens, Beth Allen, and Danielle, Natalie, and Nathan Vaughn; 8 great-grandchildren, Megan, Mackenzie, Sidney, Zachary, Ethan, Aubrey, Jared, and Gabrielle; 3 sisters, Lenore Russell of Sacramento, CA; Martha Lewis and her husband Frank of Hamden, CT; and June Bruner and her husband Donald of Somerset; 2 brothers, Roger Schweitzer of Columbia, SC and Neil Schweitzer and his wife Jeri of Kent, WA; a stepsister, Nita Pierce and her husband Harry of Guys Mills; a stepsister-in-law, Doris Holabaugh of Guys Mills; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his stepmother, Elzada Schweitzer; twin stepsisters, Lucille Williams and Louise Keller; and a stepbrother, Wayne Holabaugh.
Calling hours will be Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, 581 Chestnut St., Meadville with an Elks service at 6:45 p.m.
A funeral service will be Thursday at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Christine Rogan, Pastor of Blooming Valley United Methodist Church officiating.
Interment will be in Greendale Cemetery with military honors provided by the Harm Jan Huidekoper Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #2006, Meadville.
