Myrtle W. Shaffer

June 11, 1886 — March 24, 1981

Myrtle W. Shaffer, 94, a resident of United Methodist Home and Nursing Hospial since 1976, died Tuesday, March 24, 1981, at the home following an illness of the past year.

She was born in Saegertown on June 11, 1886, a daughter of Michael and Alice Biege Shaffer.

A Meadville native, she also had been a former Florida resident.  She was a graduate of Meadville Commercial College and Pennsylvania College of Music.

She formerly was employed as secretary to the plant manager at the former American Viscose Corp., now Avtex Fibers Inc.

She was a member of Stone United Methodist Church, UM Women of the church and was a charter member and past president of the church's Wesleyan Circle.

In addition, she was a member of Mu Phi Epsilon National Music Honor Society and American Federation of Music Clubs of Sarasota, FL. She formerly was librarian for Florida Federation of Music Clubs.

Miss Shaffer was a lifelong vocalist, having sung with Stone UM Church choir, Sarasota First United Methodist Church choir and Chauttauqua Institute choir in New York.

She is survived by several nephews and three nieces, Mrs. Fred (Carole) Charlton of Meadville, Mrs. Norman (Virginia) Kahler of Carlton and Mrs. John (Kay) Wetsell of Edinboro.

Services were held at Waid Funeral Home.

Interment was in Greendale Cemetery.
