Nancy Jean Parker Henderson of Stoneboro, PA passed away peacefully in her sleep on August 12, 2018, at the age of 92. She was the only child of William Parker and Florence (Cann) Parker. Nancy married James C. Henderson on June 12, 1948. They lived in Hendersonville raising four children. This past November she rented an apartment in Lemoyne, PA to be near her family. She graduated from Stoneboro High School, attended Westminster College and graduated from Edinboro University of Pennsylvania with a teaching degree. In the late 1960s she started a private half-day kindergarten at the Stoneboro Presbyterian Church. She went to work for the Lakeview School District teaching kindergarten when that grade level was first added retiring from Oakview Elementary. Nancy was a member of Stoneboro Presbyterian Church, serving as financial secretary and church Elder. She was a life member of the Stoneboro Chapter of Order of The Eastern Star, and an Advisor for the Order of Rainbow for Girls. Nancy volunteered with MCAR and with the Lakeview area: Meals on Wheels, Helping Hands Center, and Backpack Food Program for school children. She would also read to children at the Sandy Lake Library. She was a Board member for the Mercer County Historical Society, a member of the Stoneboro Women's Club, County president of Mercer County Federation of Women's Clubs, and member of Delta Kappa Gamma Society International for women educators. She helped with the Great Stoneboro Fair serving in several capacities. Nancy traveled extensively, visiting Los Angeles as recently as this March. Her favorite pastime was reading. She was especially fond of mystery novels because she almost had a career in criminology before deciding on teaching. She also enjoyed playing cards with family and friends. Many considered her a second mother, including a foreign exchange student from Panama 1973-1974, Denise Fernandez Arauz. Nancy is preceded in death by her parents and her husband. She is survived by four daughters, Dianne Lee of Placentia, CA; Emily Krebs and husband Bob of Mechanicsburg, PA; Pam Henderson of Mechanicsburg, PA; and Christy Kehlbeck and husband Hank of Myersville, MD. Seven grandchildren: Greg Lee, Jeffrey Lee, Eric Krebs, Michele Gillis, Chloe Kehlbeck, Alexa Kehlbeck, and Declan Kehlbeck. Eight great-grandchildren, Ryan Krebs, Sharon Krebs, Alyssah Gillis, Riley Gillis, DeLaney Gillis, Charlotte Gillis, Isaac Lee, and Mackenzie Lee. Funeral Services will be held on Friday, August 24, 2018, at Silver Spring Presbyterian Church in Mechanicsburg, PA. Locally, visitation will be held at Black Funeral Home in Stoneboro, PA on Saturday, August 25, 2018 at 11 am. A luncheon will follow at 12 pm for friends and family at Stoneboro Presbyterian Church. Burial will take place privately at Oak Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can made be made in Nancy’s memory to Stoneboro Presbyterian Church, 7 Linden Street, P.O. Box 548, Stoneboro, PA 16153.
