Nancy L. Smith

August 19, 1949 — February 12, 2021

Nancy L. Smith, 71, of Blooming Valley, passed away surrounded by family on February 12, 2021.

She was born August 19, 1949 to the late Herbert and Grace (Davis) Alward.  She graduated from Cambridge Springs High School and married Charles E. Smith on March 23, 1968.  They were married 53 years this year.

Nancy was a talented seamstress, wedding cake baker, and knitter.  She loved to sew her family’s clothes and knit sweaters.  She opened Nancy Smith’s Fabrics while the kids were in school.  She gave sewing and knitting classes and she judged the afghans at the Crawford County Fair for several years.  She sold her store and worked at Patron’s Mutual Insurance.  Nancy missed being her own boss so she and Charlie opened up Smith’s Country Gardens to cater to the public.  It was a family business with her mother, children, and grandchildren helping out.  Charlie often did dishes after chores were done at the barn.  Charlie and Nancy owned the hall for 14 years until they retired in November 2020.

Nancy was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother.  She loved having her family near and she always had grandchildren coming and going every day.  She has five grandchildren who loved her dearly, Katherine Wellmon, Colton Smith, Tyler Crawford, Brianna Smith and Isla Smith.

She is further survived by her husband Charlie and four children, Sheila White (Robert) of Cochranton, Michael Smith (Jennifer) and Grace Smith of Blooming Valley, and William Smith and his companion Jasmine of West Virginia.

A private graveside service with be held at Blooming Valley Cemetery with the Rev. Jeff Bobin officiating.

The family wishes to thank Robin Peterson, Jessica Bailey, and Jodi Caldwell for all of the excellent care they gave to Nancy each day as well as Hospice of Crawford County for being there as well.

The arrangements have been entrusted to the ROBERT W. WAID FUNERAL HOME, 581 CHESTNUT ST., MEADVILLE where memories and condolences may be shared at www.waidfuneralhome.net.
