Naomi M. Nye

October 15, 1929 — September 14, 2023

Naomi M. Nye, 93, went home to be with the Lord, Thursday, September 14, 2023 at her residence in Conneaut Lake after a courageous battle with a short illness.

Naomi was born October 15, 1929 in New Virginia, PA a daughter of Edward S and Margaret Parker Hunter.  She married Paul H. Nye on March 18, 1952 in Hermitage, PA.

Naomi was a member of Conneaut Lake Presbyterian Church for over 50 years and served on various committees.   A graduate of Hickory High School in Hermitage, Naomi enjoyed her high school years and was involved in many activities - including drum major, an all-star majorette and a class officer to name a few.   After graduating from high school, she worked at Heiges in Sharon, PA when she met her future husband Paul Nye (who always lovingly referred to her as Iodine) - they were married for 68 years until his passing in 2020.  Upon their marriage they resided in Revenna, OH while Paul attended college, they then lived in Germany, followed by Dearborn, Michigan.   In 1957 Naomi and Paul happily moved to Conneaut Lake and opened Nye’s Sport Shop, which is now Nye’s Marina. Naomi loved working at the marina – her knowledge and keen business sense, along with hard work, energy and determination drove the business for 66 years; she is a role model to the two generations currently working there.  Although Naomi retired from the marina at the young age of 86, she continued her support by providing encouragement, great advice and awesome lunches - her fabulous lasagna was a favorite.

While Naomi loved her work, her passion was her family.   She was a wonderful daughter, wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother and an inspiration to us all. She enjoyed attending her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren’s sporting events, and dance / piano recitals.  She also enjoyed going out to lunch and dinner with family and friends, movie nights out with the girls, golfing, playing gin, shopping, vacationing and was a devout Pens hockey fan.    Until she became ill this spring, she was blessed to still be hosting wonderful family holiday parties, working around her house, driving around town and enjoying boat rides while helping to deliver boats to various lakes.

Survivors include: four children, Paul L Nye (Wilma) of Saegertown, Eric V Nye (Valerie) of Meadville, Colleen S Nye of Meadville, and Terri M Kindervater (Ken) of Meadville; seven grandchildren, Jada Betts, Rachel Houck, Dustin Eaton, Jesse Nye, Alexander Nye, Aaron Nye and Stephanie Nye; seven great grandchildren, Wesley, Jovi, Tyler, Lennon, Olivia, Adelyn and Miliana, and nieces and nephews that were all dear to her.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was proceeded in death by a brother Donald H Hunter and a special aunt, Nettie Young.

Family and friends will be received at Conneaut Lake Presbyterian Church, 145 South 5th St, Conneaut Lake, PA on Friday, September 22nd 10:00AM – 11:00AM followed by a service at 11:00AM with Rev. Sam Heagy officiating.   Interment will be afterward at Foust Cemetery in Conneaut Lake.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Conneaut Lake Presbyterian Church, 145 South 5th St, Conneaut Lake, PA  16316 or Shriners Hospital for Children, 1645 West 8th St., Erie, PA 16505.
