Nellie Abbondanza

Nellie Abbondanza, 93, formerly of Ernst Place, Meadville and a resident of Wesbury United Methodist Retirement Community since 2004, died there Thursday, September 7, 2006.

She was born in Meadville, December 5, 1912, a daughter of the late Marco and Caroline Rondinaro DeSantis.  She married Lawrence Abbondanza June 2, 1934 and he preceded her in death July 19, 1979.

She attended St. Brigid School, was a homemaker, and previously worked in production at Talon and in the kitchen at the former Spencer Hospital.

She was a member of St. Brigid Roman Catholic Church and its Altar and Rosary Society and the Italian Civic Club.

Survivors include a daughter, Ann Marie Travaglini and her husband Joe of Meadville; 2 sons, Lawrence (Larry) Abbondanza, Jr. of Erie and Richard P. Abbondanza and his wife Susan of Meadville; 3 sisters, Clara Rosenberg and her husband Lou; Mary Varano and her husband Mick; and Ida Peirce, all of Meadville; 6 grandchildren, Joe Travaglini, Jr. and his wife Renee, Marianne Pruskowski and her husband Brian, Lori Martin and her husband Dennis, Robert P. Abbondanza and his wife Diane, David Abbondanza and his wife Tiffany, and Laura Weadock; 4 great-grandchildren, Mark McKay, Dominik Pruskowski, Maddy Abbondanza, and Tyler Abbondanza; and nieces and nephews.  In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by 3 brothers, Henry, Jack, and Sam DeSantis and a sister, Theresa Montana.

Calling hours are Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, 581 Chestnut St., Meadville with a Scripture Prayer service at 8:45 p.m.

Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday at 10:00 a.m. at St. Brigid Church, 383 Arch St., Meadville.

Interment will be in St. Brigid Cemetery.
