Norma F. McFadden, 88, a lifelong resident of Guys Mills passed into eternity Sunday, November 18, 2018 in the home where she was born.
Norma was a graduate of Randolph High School.
Norma’s work ethic was instilled in her at a young age. She spent every summer of her childhood planting gladiola bulbs on her grandparent’s farm. As an adult, that love carried over and she had a beautiful garden of her own. She worked at Montgomery Wards, as a secretary for the Randolph East Mead School, Randolph Township and for the superintendent of the Penncrest School District. She then became business manager for the Penncrest School District. After her retirement, she opened her greenhouse, Norma’s Needle Nook and Nursery, where she was able to incorporate her sewing talents and her green thumb. In 1991 she became the proprietor of Norma’s Store, one of the pillars of the Guys Mills community.
“Aunt Norma” as she was known to the entire community was loved for her charitable acts and her kind heart. Her generosity blessed many. She was famous for her potato salad and her homemade spaghetti sauce.
Norma enjoyed gardening, camping, snowmobiling, boating and water skiing. One of her favorite past times was putting the top down on her yellow mustang and going for a banana split. She will be missed by her cat, Fluffy, who laid at her feet and kept careful watch over her this past week.
She is survived by her faithful sweetheart of 70 years, John L. (Jack) York, four generations of nieces and nephews that she loved like her own children, several cousins and a sister-in-law, Gladys McFadden. She was preceded in death by her parents, Forrest and Florence (Garnett) McFadden; two sisters, Maxine McFadden and Virginia Proper; a brother, William McFadden and a nephew, Larry Proper.
