Norma L. Palmer

Norma L. Palmer, 87, of Meadville, passed away Saturday, July 2, 2022 at Wesbury United Methodist Community.

She was born December 19, 1934 in Meadville, a daughter of Patterson Hofius and Florence Schwab Johnston.  She married Lester J. Palmer July 17, 1953 and he preceded her in death October 13, 2010.

Norma was a 1953 graduate of Meadville High School.  She was co-owner with her husband of Palmer’s Diner on Park Avenue, and Williams Café on Market Street for 23 years.  She subsequently was employed at Meadville Medical Center, Sheetz, and Peebles and had previously worked at Merchants Bank and Talon.

Norma was a member of Watson Run Presbyterian Church where she formerly served on the Missionary committee and worked at the rummage sales.  She enjoyed playing the piano, bowling, cooking, and her flowers, dogs and stray cat.

Survivors include a son, Jay Palmer (Karen) of Guys Mills; a daughter, Jill Palmer of Meadville; five grandchildren, Travis Palmer, Heather Pickens (Jeff), Holly Ross (Tim), Joey Marie Porcelli (John), and Jamie Gaglione (Charles Jr.); eleven great-grandchildren; her sister-in-law, Margie Johnston of Meadville; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Theodore Johnston.

Calling hours will be Wednesday, July 6th from 1-3 p.m. at the ROBERT W. WAID FUNERAL HOME, 581 CHESTNUT ST., MEADVILLE where the funeral service will follow at 3:00 p.m. with the Rev. Dr. Daniel Corll officiating.

Interment will be in Greendale Cemetery.
