Norman Earl Matteson, 90, of Conneaut Lake and formerly of Greenville died Thursday, January 6, 2022 at the Marquette Hospice House, Meadville.
He was born May 5, 1931 in Greenville a son of Delbert Bruce and May Elmira McCleery Matteson. He married Elizabeth Marye Taylor Madison February 14, 1971 and she preceded him in death June 8, 2002.
He was a 1949 graduate of Jamestown High School and was a veteran of the Korean War serving in the US Navy on the USS Antietam (CV-36). Following his naval service, he worked for Chicago Bridge and Iron, Werner Ladder and then in advertising for the Greenville Record Argus. He then was self-employed selling advertising for area restaurants.
He served as the Greenville Fire Chief for six years and was a volunteer fireman with the Hartstown Vol. Fire Dept. for many years.
He is survived by two step-sons, Robert H. Madison (Donna) of Conneaut Lake and David Madison (Nicky), Richmond, VA; nine grandchildren, Rachel Koenig (Steve) of Harborcreek, Roberta Williams (Bruce) of Rockford, MI, Robert Madison, Jr. (Melissa) of Penn Line, Kate Landry of Nevada, Daniel Smith of England, Katherine Smith of New Brighton, PA, Teresa Smith, Richard Little (Doreena) of Beaver Falls and Brian Little (Amanda) of New Brighton, PA; a sister, Janet Louise Bennett; three nieces, Denise Smith of Fredericksburg, VA, Kelli Cassidy of Meadville and Cindy Dillon of Atlantic; a nephew, Russell Bennett of Spotsylvania, VA and 35 great grandchildren.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Jean Marie Talbot; two step-sons, Jack Madison and George Madison; a step-daughter, Sandee Madison; two grandsons, Aaron Madison and John Madison and a niece, Karla Norr.
A celebration of Norman's life will be held Friday, August 12, 2022 from 6-8:30 p.m. at Bob and Donna Madison's house, 660 Water Street, Conneaut Lake, PA 16316.
Interment will be in McMichael Cemetery.
