Norwood L. (Sox) McDade, 88, of Saegertown, died Tuesday, December 6, 2016 at Meadville Medical Center following a period of declining health. He was born June 23, 1928 in Freedom, a son of Earl H. and Beulah Forrest McDade. He married Margaret A. Smilak August 4, 1951 and she survives. Sox was a 1948 graduate of Freedom High School. He was a proud World War II veteran, serving in the U.S. Navy from 1945 to 1947. He worked as a pipe fitter for Koppers, Inc. in Monaca. He subsequently worked as the used car manager at Tom Cross Ford in Aliquippa and Chuck Galton Ford in Aliquippa. He then worked in sales at Weber-Harris Ford in Meadville. A member of Saegertown United Methodist Church, Sox was an avid hunter, fisherman, trapper, and golfer. He was fond of saying 'if you don't have fun, it's your own damn fault.' Survivors, in addition to his loving wife Margaret of 65 years, include four daughters, Christine Grubbs and her husband Richard of Meadville, Patricia Pfaff of New Brighton, Donna Zimmerman and her husband Mark of Meadville, and Nancy Deyarmin and her husband Jeff of Grove City; two brothers-in-law, Joseph (Bud) Mecklem of Rochester and David Whitehouse of Ohio; a sister-in-law, Mary McDade of Baden; thirteen grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Earl, Jack, and Kenneth McDade; two infant brothers; and three sisters, Patricia Galton, Dolly Whitehouse, and Louise Mecklem. Calling hours will be Friday from 3 to 7 p.m. at the ROBERT W. WAID FUNERAL HOME, 581 CHESTNUT ST., MEADVILLE. The funeral service will be Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at Saegertown United Methodist Church, 620 Euclid Ave., Saegertown with the Rev. Darrell Greenawalt, Pastor, officiating. Interment will be in Greendale Cemetery with military honors provided by VFW Post 2006, Meadville. Memorials may be made to Saegertown United Methodist Church, P.O.
