Norwood W. Kerr

October 27, 1896 — July 7, 1983

Norwood W. Kerr, 86, formerly of Meadville, died at the hospital Thursday, July 7, 1983, after an extended illness.

He was born at Meadville October 27, 1896, a son of John and Carrie Bearce Kerr.  He married Florence McCall June 20, 1939.

A 1920 graduate of Allegheny College, he was a member of Phi Delta Theta fraternity and Alpha Chi Sigma National Chemical Fraternity.  He was one of the first class of inductees to the Allegheny College Sports Hall of Fame.

He taught for two years at Meadville High School, then spent ten years in the test department of the former Erie Railroad.  Mr. Kerr subsequently worked for 29 years in the engineering department at Talon, Inc. and retired in 1961.

Mr. Kerr was a member and former elder and trustee at First Presbyterian Church.  He also was a 50-year member of Masonic Lodge 408 and a member of Solomon Royal Arch Chapter and Northwestern Commandry, all of Meadville.  He also was a member of Coudersport Consistory and Zem Zem Shrine Temple of Erie.

He is survived by his wife, a resident of United Methodist Nursing Hospital.

Services were held at Waid Funeral Home.

Interment was in Greendale Cemetery.
