Olive M. Rice

Olive M. Rice, 87, of Blooming Valley, died Friday, August 10, 2012 at the Crawford County Care Center.

She was born July 16, 1925 in Franklin, a daughter of George and Margaret Houser McDonald.  She married Thomas L. Rice, Sr. March 27, 1942 and he preceded her in death December 23, 1970.

Olive was employed at the A & P Store in Franklin and Meadville for 26 years.  She subsequently worked in housekeeping at Meadville Medical Center and then at the former Hearth Restaurant, Meadville, Conneaut Lake Park, and the Iroquois Club, Conneaut Lake.

Olive was a member of the West Mead 2 Volunteer Fire Dept. Auxiliary and VFW Post 2006, Meadville.  A loving mother and grandmother who especially enjoyed spending time with her family, she also enjoyed traveling, fishing, and playing bingo and cards.

Survivors include four sons, Thomas L. Rice and his wife Gale of Blooming Valley, Larry T. Rice and his wife Mary Ellen of Candler, NC, Barry J. Rice of Blooming Valley, and John R. Rice of Guys Mills; eight grandchildren, Travis Rice, Jodi Mowris, Kevin Rice, Tara Rice, Ginger Gray, Tammy Valentine, Jason Rice, and Josie Hamilton; ten great-grandchildren, Alexis and Kirsten Mowris, Alyssa Rice, John and Frank Gray, Tessa and Hunter Rice, Caitlyn and Zachary Nageotte, and Krista; and nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by three brothers, George, Paul, and Dick McDonald and two sisters, Betty Kluck and Maxine Mowry.

Calling hours will be Sunday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, 581 Chestnut St., Meadville

The funeral and committal service will be Monday at 12:30 p.m. at the funeral home.

Interment will be in Sunset Hills Memorial Gardens, Cranberry.
