Otto E. (Jack) Simmerman, 76, of Meadville and formerly of Conneaut Lake, passed away Tuesday, February 18, 2014 at his residence surrounded by his loving family. Jack was born August 14, 1937 in Marion, Ohio, a son of Otto R. and Lucille Ghee Simmerman. He married Laura Wise July 2, 1960 and she survives. Jack was a 1955 graduate of Linesville High School. He worked at Ohio Rubber Company, Conneautville and Wolfs Hardware, Schnaars Construction Company, Rand Construction Company, and Firedex, all of Meadville. He was of the Christian faith, had formerly been active in the Conneaut Kickers and Ramblin Squares square dancing groups, and enjoyed woodworking. Survivors, in addition to his loving wife Laura of 53 years, include four children, Kevin Van Zandt and his wife Chris of Madison, IN, Lori Ellen Ball and her husband Tom of Lexington Park, MD, Otto (Jeff) Simmerman and his wife Melanie of Marshallville, OH, and Susan Trucco and her husband George of Meadville; six grandchildren, Amanda Jackson, Chelsea and Taylor Ball, Anthony and George Jacob Trucco, and Rachel Simmerman; one great-grandson, Kamdyn Jackson; two brothers, Howard Joseph Simmerman and his wife Joan of Linesville and Ralph Edward Simmerman and his wife Judy of Centerville; a sister, Gayle Ann Hildack and her husband Roger of Andover, OH; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Robert H. Simmerman and two sisters, Janet Simmerman and Mary Lou Simmerman. Calling hours will be Friday from 3 to 7 p.m. at Waid-Coleman Funeral Home, 12422 Conneaut Lake Rd., Conneaut Lake. The funeral and committal service will be Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Philip Torre officiating. Interment will be in Roselawn Memorial Gardens.
