Parr Dalton Blair, 85, of Meadville, who retired in 1940 as Crawford County Schools Superintendent, died at City Hospital Friday, January 18, 1963, after an illness of one day.
Active in civic and community affairs, he served as an elder of First Presbyterian Church for nearly 50 years. He had been commissioner to the Presbyterian Synod of Pennsylvania and to the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church, USA.
Mr. Blair had many memberships to various clubs in the area.
He was born at Hartstown March 28, 1877, a son of John A. and Sara Eva Hunter Blair. He was graduated from Clarion Normal School in 1897 and studied for additional credits at Beaver and Allegheny College. A graduate also of Grove City College, he studied in later years at Harvard and the University of Pittsburgh summer schools.
His wife, the former, Alice Belle Farley of Spartansburg, died in January 1946. Mr. Blair is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Welsey (June A.) Johns of Buffalo; a son, Paul D. of Youngstown, OH; a sister, Mrs. Mary Helen Ingraham; and a brother, Thomas Lloyd Blair both of Townville; two grandchildren, Philip D. Blair of Cleveland and Miss Carolyn Blair, a freshman at Allegheny College; and two great-grandchildren. Two sons, Howard F. and John W. died in infancy.
Services were held at Waid Funeral Home.
Interment was in Spartansburg Cemetery.
