Paul C. McGowan, 82, of Blooming Valley Rd., Meadville, died Tuesday, November 25, 2008 at the Crawford County Care Center.
He was born August 1, 1926 in Mercer, a son of the late Francis and Ruth McCarl McGowan. He married H. Lucille Smock October 30, 1948.
A U.S. Navy Veteran of World War II, he served from 1944 to 1946. Paul was employed for over 30 years as a salesman for Weber-Harris Ford. He previously worked as the used car manager at Griffin Motors for 9 years, and as parts manager for Bob Coughenour Ford, Meadville.
He was of the Protestant faith and was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2006, 50-year member of Saegertown American Legion, member of Meadville Eagles Aerie 429, and was a former member of Meadville Elks Lodge 219. He loved working on anything mechanical such as cars, bikes, go-carts, and lawnmowers. He enjoyed dancing, bowling, hunting, playing softball, playing cards, and traveling out west. He loved his family and people in general and was a very special person who was loved and appreciated by many.
Survivors, in addition to his wife Lucille of 60 years, include a son, James McGowan and his wife Jill of Meadville; a daughter, Diane Albaugh and her husband David of Meadville; 4 grandchildren, Dave Kuhn and his wife Courtney, Doug Kuhn, Amber Cree, and April Bowman and her husband Willy; 3 step-grandchildren, Michelle Kearns and her husband Chad, and Adam and Andrea Hoke; 2 step-great-grandchildren, Noah Blake and Sophie Kearns; 3 brothers, William McGowan of Guys Mills, Richard McGowan and his wife Christene of Canadohta Lake; and Ronald McGowan and his wife Karol of Guys Mills; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 2 sisters, Marjorie Ruth Hart and Marion Freyermuth and 2 brothers, Thomas (Tuck) and Robert McGowan.
Calling hours will be Friday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, 581 Chestnut St., Meadville.
A funeral and committal service will be Saturday at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Glen Van Cise, Pastor of Chapmanville Community Church officiating and with military honors provided by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2006, Meadville.
Interment will be in Blooming Valley Cemetery.
