Paul Donaldson Inglefield

March 3, 1909 — January 20, 1960

Paul Donaldson Inglefield, 50, supervisor of music for the Meadville Area School District, died Wednesday afternoon, January 20, 1960, at Johns Hopkins Hospital, Baltimore, just a week after undergoing a delicate heart operation.

Inglefield came to Meadville in 1936 as head of the music department of the Meadville school system.  He set up the music program and guided vocal and instrumental organizations and small groups to many top music honors in the years that followed.

Music was his life and his influence was felt by many Meadville area students, including his own two children, who went on to become prominent in the music world.

A graduate of Carnegie Institute of Technology in 1932 with a bachelor of arts degree in public school music, he went on to earn a master of fine arts degree in music education from the same school in 1951.

After graduation in 1932, he was music supervisor at Zelienople for four years before coming to Meadville.

Inglefield continued his music education by attending summer schools at Carnegie, Pennsylvania State University, the University of Pittsburgh and the Christiansen Choral School at Chambersburg.

He was a native of Burgettstown, Washington County and was born March 3, 1909, a son of Elmer and Frances Donaldson Inglefield.  He was a member of Stone Methodist Church.

He was a member of a number of professional and social organizations.

He is survived by his widow, the former Bonita Gibbs; two sons, Howard C. and Kenley; his mother, Mrs. Frances Inglefield of Burgettstown and five sisters, Mrs. C. L. (Dorothy) Axtell of Cochranton, Mrs. R. J. (Bernice) Fair of Maywood, NJ, Mrs. W. W. (Helen) Welch of Lancaster, Mrs. David (Ramona) Haines of East McKeesport and Miss Lorraine Inglefield of Burgettstown.

Services were held at Waid Funeral Home.

Interment was in Greendale Cemetery.
