Paul H. Nye, 90, of Conneaut Lake, passed away at home surrounded by his family, Thursday, October 22, 2020.
He was born January 9, 1930 in Sharon, PA a son of William F. and Jeannette Rockwell Nye. He married Naomi M. Hunter on March 18, 1952 in Hermitage, PA and she survives.
Paul was a graduate of Sharon High School and received his Bachelor’s degree in Economics from Kent State University. He then received his teaching certificate from Thiel College and had additional class work at Allegheny College. A veteran of the Korean War, he served as a 1st Lieutenant in the US Army in Germany. He was a Social Studies/History teacher in the Reynolds School District and the Conneaut School District, retiring in 1984. Paul owned and operated Nye’s Marina in Conneaut Lake, which he founded with his wife Naomi in 1957.
He was a member of Masonic Lodge #668 of Shenango, Crawford County Shrine Club, Zem Zem Shrine Temple of Erie, Scottish Rite Valley of Erie, the PA Retired Teachers Association and the PA State Education Association. He was a former member of the Conneaut Lake Kiwanis Club, a former Chairman of the Sadsbury Township Planning Commission and a former member of the Conneaut Lake Sportsman’s Club.
Paul enjoyed nature, especially when he was sharing it with others. Some of his favorite interests were boating, hunting, fishing, spending time at camp, golfing and bowling. He enjoyed spending time with family and his outgoing personality awarded him with many friends over the years.
Survivors, in addition to his wife Naomi of 68 years, include: four children, Paul L. Nye (Wilma) of Saegertown, Eric V. Nye (Valerie) of Meadville, Colleen S. Nye of Meadville and Terri M. Kindervater (Ken) of Meadville; seven grandchildren, Jada, Rachel, Dustin, Jesse, Alexander, Aaron and Stephanie; seven great grandchildren, Wesley, Jovi, Tyler, Lennon, Olivia, Adelyn and Miliana; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Glenn, Frederick, James and John.
Private family services will be held at Foust Cemetery in Conneaut Lake with Rev. Sam Heagy, Pastor of Conneaut Lake Presbyterian Church, officiating. Interment will be with military honors.
Friends and family are invited to gather for a visitation in memory of Paul Friday, June 18, 2021 at the funeral home from 5-7 p.m.
