Paul L. Stevenson, 94, of Meadville, died Monday, November 28, 2011 in Indiana, PA following a period of declining health.
He was born August 19, 1917 in Lawrence County, a son of John C.A. and Wilhelmina Copper Stevenson. He married Irene Ellis September 27, 1950 and she preceded him in death June 19, 2010.
Paul was a 1936 graduate of Meadville High School and was a Veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army from 1942 to 1946. He subsequently retired as Major from the Army Reserves. He worked at the American Viscose as a time method-analyst in the industrial engineer department for 41 years, retiring in 1982.
Paul was a member of Meadville Masonic Lodge 408. A devoted husband, father, and grandfather, he loved traveling with his family and taking them fishing. He also enjoyed gardening and playing cards and board games with family and friends.
Survivors include two daughters, Diane S. Spence of Indiana, PA and Linda S. Melton and her husband Tim of Woodbridge, VA; a son, John E. Stevenson and his wife Victoria of Johnson City, TN; four grandchildren, Reed, Katherine, Joshua, and Juliana; a great-grandson, James; a sister, Dorothy Fuller of Crossingville; a sister-in-law, Shirley Stevenson of Meadville; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a son, James M. Stevenson; three brothers, Clarence Stevenson, John Norman Stevenson, and Richard Stevenson; and five sisters, Mabel Porterfield, Mildred Williams, Florence Stevenson, Laura Titsler, and Hazel Hardman.
Calling hours will be Thursday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, 581 Chestnut St., Meadville.
The funeral service will be Friday at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Glen Van Cise, Pastor of Chapmanville Community Church, officiating.
Interment will be in Roselawn Memorial Gardens with military honors provided by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2006, Meadville.
Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
