Paul Richard Jukes

Paul Richard Jukes, 78, of Meadville, PA and formerly of Lottsville, PA, passed away Thursday, November 16, 2023 at Wesbury United Methodist Community.

He was born January 27, 1945 in Lakewood, OH, a son of the late Richard V. “Dick” Jukes of Bear Lake, PA and Arlene Mae Adams Jukes of Clymer, NY.  They lived in that area until the family moved to Wrightsville, PA in 1958.

Paul was a 1963 graduate of Youngsville High School.  He was the recipient of the school’s first Studley House of Music’s Outstanding Senior Musician Award for his expertise as the school’s only sousaphonist for four years.  He played in all the school’s marching, concert, and pep bands and was selected for regional concerts every year.  Paul also played bass viol for the Tru-tones, a 12-piece group that was featured at proms, fairs, and other functions.

He attended the Warren campus of Edinboro College in 1964.  He married Evangeline Fink of Centerville, PA on October 7, 1967.  Paul worked in many of the area machine shops in Warren County and other places until forced into early retirement due to cardiac complications in May of 2000.

He served as the Warren County delegate to the PA Federation of Sportsmen’s Clubs for over a decade and was the outdoors editor for Valley Publishing Company, Sheffield, PA for 31 years.  His byline also appeared in numerous state, regional, and national publications and an audio version of his weekly column was featured on WWCB radio, Corry, PA for a decade.  He did wedding and wildlife photography and won numerous awards for his wildlife photographs.

Paul moved to Lottsville, PA in July of 1974 and lived there for 44 years until relocating to Wesbury, a retirement complex in Meadville, PA in November of 2018.  He traveled to North Carolina and Florida for the winter months from 2010 until 2020.  Paul was a former member of Piedmont Bible Church, Thomasville, NC and attended Allida Smith Wesleyan Methodist Church, Meadville, PA.

Survivors, in addition to his loving wife Evangeline of 56 years, include two sisters, Delores (Kelvin) Roberts of Cranesville, PA and Heather (Timothy) Hummer of Pittsfield, PA as well as several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Dale Jukes.

A memorial service will be Saturday, November 18, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. at Allida Smith Wesleyan Methodist Church, 15228 S. Mosiertown Rd., Meadville, PA with the Rev. William Cope, Pastor officiating.

Private Interment will be in Lottsville Cemetery, Freehold Township, Warren County, PA.
