Paul V. Kebert, 74, of Meadville, died Sunday, February 3, 1991, at his winter home in Oldsmar, FL, following a three-year illness.
He was born in Union Township, November 9, 1916, a son of George and Blanche Kahler Kebert. He married Pauline Thatcher February 21, 1942.
He was first employed at Talon, then at Westinghouse before starting Kebert Construction Company, Meadville Redi-Mix and Kebert Enterprises. He purchased the Keystone Ordnance in 1965 and developed its as Kebert Industrial Park. He served as a director of Associated Pennsylvania Constructors, was a director of Merchants National Bank and Trust and was an officer of Lakelands Racing Assn. In 1971, he bought his first horses, nine yearlings, and established Hillview Farms. In the ensuing years, he raced at Thistledown in Cleveland, Commodore Downs in Fairview, and Tampa Bay Downs in Florida, and in 1979 was named leading owner for races won. In 1981, recognized as "the man with the golden touch," he was the recipient of the Dr. Harry C. Winslow Award, given annually at Greater Meadville Area Days.
He was a member of Stone United Methodist Church; Masonic Lodge 408, Scottish Rite Bodies of Erie, Crawford County Shrine Club and Zem Zem Shrine Temple, Erie; the Royal Order of Jesters; Elks Lodge 219; Iroquois Club; Meadville Country Club; Meadville Medical Center Board of Directors. He was a director of the Crawford County Fair Assn. and in 1987 retired from the Pennbank Advisory Board after 31 years of service.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a son, Larry G. Kebert of Meadville; two half-sisters, Mrs. Albert (Delores) Buff and Mrs. Carl (Lois) Hotchkiss, both of Meadville; a half-brother, Floyd Kebert of Meadville and four grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Melvin Kebert.
Services were held at Waid Funeral Home.
Interment was in Greendale Cemetery.
