Philip M. Benjamin

July 18, 1903 — January 1, 1753

Philip Mohr Benjamin, 66, librarian and faculty member of Allegheny College, died suddenly last night at City Hospital.

Mr. Benjamin attended Dartmouth College and graduated cum laude in 1926 with a bachelor of arts degree.  He won honors in English, and from 1926 to 1928 he held a Richard Crawford Campbell and a MacDonald Fellowship at Princeton University where he studied until 1929.  He received a master of arts degree from Princeton in 1927.

He joined the Allegheny faculty in 1929 as instructor in English and held many positions over the years, including chairman of commencement exercises for 26 years.  Mr. Benjamin planned to retire in October.

He was born in Warren July 18, 1903, a son of Charles and Ella Michael Benjamin.

Surviving are one sister, Mrs. Charlotte Season of Covina, CA; one niece, Mrs. Charles (Margaret) Barrett of Warren; and one nephew, Charles H. Paterson of Washington, DC.

Services were held at Waid Funeral Home.

Interment was in Oakland Cemetery, Warren, PA.
