Philip Richard Thompson

March 23, 1927 — April 3, 1951

Philip Richard Thompson, 24, two-year navy veteran, died at Butler Veterans Hospital this morning.  He had been a medical patient there since November of 1949.

Thompson was graduated from Meadville High School in 1945, and enlisted in the navy that year.  Most of his duty was spent as a corpsman at Bainbridge Naval Hospital, Bainbridge, MD.  After his discharge from the service, he did the same type of work, as a civilian, at Bay Pine Naval Hospital, FL.

In Meadville, he was employed during summer vacations by the M. M. Bloom Cleaning Co., Miller Block & Supply Co. and Strong's Market.

Thompson was a student at Kent State University, Kent, OH, for two years and became ill shortly after the end of his schooling there.

He is survived by his mother, Mrs. Kathryn Thompson of Meadville; three sisters, Mrs. R. P. Hardner of Meadville, Mrs. James Drexler of Wichita, KA and Mrs. Charles Jerrell of St. Petersburg, FL and a brother, Loyd of Meadville.

Services were held at Waid Funeral Home.

Interment was in Evergreen Cemetery, Union City.
