Phyllis Harned, 72, of Meadville and formerly of Conneaut Lake and Cambridge Springs died Tuesday, September 15, 2009 at Wesbury United Methodist Community following a period of declining health.
She was born September 13, 1937 in Cleveland, OH a daughter of Thomas and Eleanor Oppenheimer Perry. She married Ronald J. Harned September 7, 1957 and he survives.
She was a 1955 graduate of Cleveland Heights High School and worked as a teletype operator and part-time phone operator in Cleveland Heights, in the Nela Park office of General Electric, as a secretary for the Cambridge Springs First United Methodist Church for several years and in the office of the former Rosier Insurance Agency in Cambridge Springs.
She was a member of the Cambridge Springs First United Methodist Church, a former member of the Conneaut Lake Card Club and a former member of the Gam-Sac-Mah Club of Cambridge Springs. She enjoyed reading, gardening, jigsaw puzzles and walking.
Survivors, in addition to her husband Ronald of 52 years, include: a daughter, Pamela Mullen and her husband Timothy of Meadville; a son, Steven Harned and his wife Julie of Altoona, PA; three grandchildren, Cody Harned, DaVee Harned and Bryce Mullen; a brother, Thomas Perry and his wife Helen of Boone, NC; a brother-in-law, James Bird of Myrtle Beach, SC; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Richard and Kay Harned of Conneaut Lake; and a niece and three nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Carol A. Bird and Harriet A. Andes.
Calling hours will be Saturday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, 581 Chestnut Street, Meadville.
The funeral service will be Sunday at 2:00 p.m. at McCracken Chapel of Wesbury United Methodist Community, 31 N. Park Avenue, Meadville with the Rev. Jeff Bobin, Pastor of Cambridge Springs First United Methodist Church officiating and assisted by the Rev. Ellen Rezek, Chaplain of Wesbury United Methodist Community.
Interment will be in Rocky Glen Cemetery, Adamsville.
