R. Emmett Allen, 69, prominent in political, school and Grange affairs, died early this morning at his home in Randolph Township.
Although he had been in failing health for several years, his death came suddenly.
A lifelong citizen and prominent farmer of the Guys Mills community, he had been in his early life a teacher in public schools of the township for several years. For about 20 years, he was a member of the Randolph Township School Board. His service included the period in which the present high school building was constructed at Guys Mills. He served as board treasurer for several years.
Politically a Democrat, he was active in local and county politics, and was a tax collector for 17 years. He had been a candidate for the offices of county sheriff and commissioner.
Mr. Allen was master of Frenchtown Grange for several years before it was discontinued, then transferred his membership to Randolph Grange at Guys Mills. He served as master of Crawford County Board of Assistance.
He is survived by his widow, the former Edna Franklin; a son, Lynn of Randolph Township, and two granddaughters. Two sisters, Mrs. Roy Stainbrook of Meadville and Mrs. Fred Allen of Bayfield, WI, also survive.
Services were held at Waid Funeral Home with Rev. Ralph Richardson, former pastor of Mt. Hope Methodist Church, officiating.
Interment was in Kiser Hill Cemetery.
