Mike Hogan, 62, of Meadville, died Friday, Dec. 20, 2013 at Presque Isle Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Erie.
Mike was born in Meadville, July 30, 1951, the son of Dr. Robert G. and Martha Brown Hogan.
He was a 1969 graduate of Meadville High School and a 1976 graduate of Mansfield State University. Mike managed Hunter's Inn for two years before he purchased the Scoreboard Tavern in 1978. In addition to owning and operating the Scoreboard, he managed the Taylor Hose Co.
In 2005, Mike won the Community Sports Service Award. He was a big supporter of local youth sports teams and was always willing to help in any way he could. He also sponsored several Sertoma slow pitch, modified, and over 35 softball teams each year. Mike was an avid golfer and sponsored the annual "Scoreboard Open'' for the past 33 years.
Mike was a staunch Alabama football fan. He thoroughly enjoyed discussing all "Tide" related developments and eagerly anticipated his fall visits to Tuscaloosa to watch "his" team play.
Mike is survived by his sister, Kathy Hogan, and her partner John Mauti of Falls Church, VA.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, January 11, at 1:00 p.m. in the Barco Chapel of Grace Nursing Center at Wesbury United Methodist Community, 31 N. Park Avenue, Meadville with the Rev. Philip Torre, officiating. A reception will follow at the West Mead #2 VFD, 20607 Ryan Road, Meadville.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Special Olympics, 1133 Nineteenth St., NW, Washington, DC 20036 or Wesbury Foundation, 31 N. Park Ave., Meadville, PA 16335.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, Inc., 581 Chestnut Street, Meadville.
