Ralph F. Lovejoy

December 11, 1914 — January 30, 2014

Ralph F. Lovejoy, 100, formerly of North Scituate, MA and a resident of Wesbury United Methodist Retirement Community since 2009, died there Thursday, January 30, 2014.

He was born December 11, 1913 in Jacksonville, VT, a son of William F. and Nora McDonald Lovejoy and was raised by his foster parents, Frank and Olive Cartier.  He married Sonia Seaholm February 6, 1937 and she preceded him in death in 1970.  He subsequently married Mildred Selvitz in 1971 and she preceded him in death in 1989.

Ralph was a graduate of Natick High School, Natick, MA and Wentworth Institute, Boston, MA where he received his welder’s certificate.  He was employed as a regional manager for the Linde division of Union Carbide for 30 years.

Ralph was a member of the U.S. Army National Guard where he served as a weaponry instructor.  He was member of The First Trinitarian Congregational Church, Scituate, MA and a former member of the American Welding Society, American Society of Metals, and the Scituate Harbor Yacht Club.  He was an avid and accomplished salt water fisherman for many years and always enjoyed sharing his catch.

Ralph was well respected for his engineering skills, especially the Minot Ledge Light at Cohasset, MA.  A very generous man, he was always willing to help anyone, was always a gentleman, had a great sense of humor, and was well liked at the Scituate Food Pantry where he volunteered for many years.

Survivors include a daughter, Sandra Cupper of Meadville; seven grandchildren, Kim, Scott, Allison, Robin, Erika, Alan, Jr, and Marina; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and wives, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Linda Dorau; a son, Alan Lovejoy; a son-in-law, Dr. Robert D. Cupper; his companion of 10 years, Elizabeth Dunning; three brothers, Robert, Warren, and Howard (Jack) Lovejoy; and a sister, Jeannette Buckler.

Calling hours will be Saturday from 10-11 a.m. in the McCracken Chapel of Wesbury United Methodist Community, 31 N. Park Ave., Meadville.  The funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. Dr. Brian Jensen, Pastor of First Presbyterian Church, officiating.

Interment will be in Old Dell Cemetery, Natick, MA.
