Ralph M. Smith, 86, of 30144 State Hwy. #408, Townville, died at home Thursday, October 31, 2002.
He was born in Guys Mills June 27, 1916 a son of William I. and Sadie Murray Smith. He married Marjorie L. Sybrant August 8, 1952 and she survives.
He retired from Universal Cyclops in Titusville after 23 years of service. Previously he had worked for the Erie Wildlife Refuge and American Viscose Corp.
He attended Randolph-East Mead Schools, Guys Mills, and he was a veteran of World War II with the U. S. Army in Europe with the Anti Tank Co., 338th Infantry 85th Division, having received 3 bronze stars.
He was a member of Lyona Bible Church and served on the Deacon Board. He enjoyed reciting poetry, hunting, fishing and gardening. He loved sharing with others his love for the Lord, his poetry and his flowers.
Survivors, in addition to his wife of 50 years, include three daughters, Sheryl Lewis and her husband Don of Rockingham, NC, Lois Burns and her husband Ron of Conneautville and Connie Smith of Conneautville; a son-in-law, Robert Davis of Cambridge Springs; five grandchildren, Jason VanTassel, Darren, Lindsey, and Travis Burns and Marla Hall; four step-grandchildren, Shannan, and Jason Lewis, and Brent and Nick Davis and also nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Gloria Jean Davis; a granddaughter, Jolene Hall; five brothers, Robert, Charles, William, Annon, and Walter Smith and a sister, Ada Dingle.
Calling hours will be Saturday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, Inc., 581 Chestnut St., Meadville.
The funeral service will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Lyona Bible Church, 28825 Lyona Road, Guys Mills, PA with the Rev. Michael Fraser, Pastor and the Rev. Gerald Walton, Assoc. Pastor, of the church, officiating.
Burial will be in Kingsley Cemetery, Townville.
